ASFE

ASFE brings together leading automotive and fuel supply companies who share a commitment to contributing to a reduction in the environmental impact of road transport through improved energy efficiency and cleaner fuels. ASFE members believe that synthetic fuels have a key role to play in meeting this objective.

ASFE core members are: Neste Oil, Royal Dutch Shell and Toyota, and are further supported by Bosch and Volkswagen.

Neste Oil Corporation is a refining and marketing company concentrating on low-emission, high-quality transport fuels. Neste Oil's refineries are located in Porvoo and Naantali, Finland, and have a combined crude oil refining capacity of approx. 260,000 barrels a day. Neste Oil produces HVO under the trademark NExBTL. This renewable diesel is an advanced fuel based on sustainably produced renewable raw materials. NExBTL diesel performs more efficiently and has a lower level of environmental impact than fossil diesel or FAME-type biodiesel. More information on http://www.nesteoil.com/

Neste Oil requires its raw material suppliers to observe a responsible approach and to comply with strict sustainability criteria. Feedstock of this type ensures that NExBTL renewable diesel has a 40-80% lower level of greenhouse gas emissions over its entire lifecycle compared to fossil diesel. NExBTL renewable diesel can be blended with conventional diesel fuel or used as such, and it is fully compatible with existing diesel engines and infrastructure. Toyota Motor Europe NV/SA (TME) oversees the wholesale sales and marketing of Toyota and Lexus vehicles, parts and accessories, and ToyotaEuropean manufacturing and engineering operations. Toyota directly and indirectly employs around 80,000 people in Europe and has invested over 7 billion since 1990. For more information, go to www.toyota.eu.

Toyota believes that synthetic fuels are one option to reach sustainable mobility . In 2004 Toyota and Shell launched a GTL demonstration project with 10 Toyota Avensis cars in London. The three month trial demonstrated the environmental benefit of using GTL neat fuel by lowering tailpipe emissions. Toyota has been involved in several governmental lead projects in Japan, using GTL fuels in heavy duty applications. In 2008 Toyota joined other ASFE members and contributed to the publication of a voluntary CEN industry standard for synthetic diesel.

Bosch

Bosch is a leading global supplier of automotive and industrial technology and of consumer goods and building technology. In 2005 our Automotive Technology business sector generated sales of 26,3 billion euros with some 158.000 associates worldwide. More information on: www.bosch.de

Bosch is prepared for the challenges that lie ahead, investing some 10% of our automotive technology sales in research and development - far more than the average in our industry. One of the largest business areas is fuel injection technology for combustion engines (diesel and gasoline). In this area we prepare for next generation systems and also synthetic fuels . This will make combustion engine vehicles cleaner and quieter with further improvements in fuel efficiency and performance.

VW
